While we can't see you in person for groups this summer, we are pleased to offer an online social skills enrichment opportunity drawn from the Think Social curriculum by Michelle Garcia Winner. This curriculum provides lessons for students across the school years, especially for students with social cognitive deficits who have near-normal to well above average verbal and non-verbal intelligence. These students have the capacity to understand that people have other thoughts and opinions, though they are not able to use or apply this knowledge in a socially appropriate manner. Groups will be placed together based on age, interest, and current level of social skills development as indicated through a checklist on the registration form. Zoom sessions will require an adult at home to supervise for technological and behavioral support, and Flipgrid activities may also require some help or guidance.
Ages 5-12.
This is a great opportunity for your child to socialize with others in a safe and fun way this summer!
Weekly Activities:
- 40 minute Zoom group lesson on Wednesdays
- Detective Training Activity on Flipgrid. (An activity to apply the concepts from our weekly lesson, often by responding to a video, pictures, worksheet, or completing an activity like bingo or a scavenger hunt.)
- Detective Game on Flipgrid. (Group guessing games played via video recording submissions, such as "feelings charades." Assistance required from a helper at home to facilitate recording the video.)
- Detective Craft on Flipgrid (Materials needed: 2 toilet paper rolls, paper, scissors, tape, and something to write/color with. Most activities are printable for ease of use, but a printer is not required.)
